We correct factual mistakes as soon as we know about them. A corrected story shows a note at its end saying what was wrong, what is right now and when it was changed.
- Correction: a fact was wrong and has been fixed.
- Update: new information was added to a story.
- Clarification: the story was right but could be misread.
- Retraction: a story was wrong at its core; it is withdrawn and a notice explains why.
