How we check
We look for the original source, official records and data, and we ask the person who made the claim for their evidence. Each fact-check lists its sources so that readers can check them too.
Ratings
We rate a claim as true, mostly true, misleading, false or unproven, and explain the rating in plain words.
Corrections
If new evidence changes a rating we update the fact-check and say so at the top. See our corrections policy.
